Zijlstra Interiors B.V. was founded in 1941 as a family business specializing in upholstered furniture in the early years. Over time, the company has grown to become one of the leaders in the world of luxury home and superyacht interiors.  In addition to designing and furnishing private residences and exclusive hotels, Zijlstra first became involved in the furnishing of luxury yachts in 1980.  

 

Since Jos Aarts joined the company in 1989, he has continuously expanded the business with designs for yacht interiors. Under his leadership, a large number of large and complex superyacht projects have been successfully implemented over the past 30 years.

 

Zijlstra has been an official partner and supplier for Dutch superyacht yards such as Feadship, Heesen Yachts, Jongert, Hakvoort und Amels for several years.
The company's excellent reputation is the result of the expertise and craftsmanship of its 50 employees, who often spend months working in teams and on projects, turning drawings and designs into real works of art.

When it comes to leather and upholstery work, design possibilities are primarily limited by the machines and technologies used in processing and finishing.

 

Sewing and embroidery are the predominant processing steps used here when it comes to functional seams and decorative elements.

 

Team work for the realization of highly demanding customer projects

 

In 2021 Zijlstra was looking for a solution to process large areas in one piece and to optimize this work step. Knowing that ZSK has been a synonym for quality and individuality in embroidery machines for decades, Zijlstra contacted ZSK Stickmaschinen in Krefeld, Germany, at that time.

 

In an initial discussion, Zijlstra's requirements were defined. With the customer’s input, experts from ZSK developed a machine that exactly meets these requirements. The primary requirement was the exceptionally large embroidery field of 2,100 x 2,500 mm. Another precondition was the perfect processing of leather, one of the main materials used for yacht interiors.

 

The machine was to create individual finishes, embroider and sew on leather, produce multicolored designs and absolutely precise decorative seams. The custom machine was designed and built for Zijlstra according to these exact specifications. A machine with 4 embroidery heads that can work together on smaller areas and utilize the maximum embroidery field of 2,100 x 2,500 mm in single-head operation.

 

At the beginning of 2022, the embroidery machine with the largest embroidery field currently available for a single-head embroidery machine was delivered to the Netherlands. Over the course of several days, Zijlstra employees were professionally installed and instructed by ZSK experts.

With the possibilities of the new machine, Zijlstra has once again significantly expanded its exclusive portfolio in terms of variety and productivity. As a result, Zijlstra Interiors B.V. is now the only company in the world that can embroider entire leather hides in a single process using the new ZSK machine.

 

As a result, large surfaces are achieved for seating or trim - without any visual impairment due to joining seams. This allows decorative and design creations in previously unknown dimensions and formats.

 

Due to the 4-fold travel path, several embroidery heads can work on one design. If more than 12 colors are required, this can be implemented by the machine without any problems.

Leather behaves differently due to material thickness, temperature and varnish and embroidery or stitching on the material will cause the material to contract. If seams are to be placed with high precision, the workpiece must be remeasured after each seam to ensure that the next seam is in the desired location. This is especially true for embroidery on perforated leather.

 

It is precisely these quality requirements that Zijlstra Interior must be able to meet for its customers. For this reason, the machine was equipped with a special camera system developed by ZSK, the Optical Positioning System (OPS 2).

 

The OPS 2 system uses perforations and reference points to measure and calculate the ideal seam. It detects perforations, color differences and weld seams. Up to 10 reference points can be measured per seam to recalculate the machine file.

CMCF 0412‐450 Q (2500)

The CMCF 0412‐450 Q (2500) is an embroidery machine with four embroidery heads that can embroider and sew up to four workpieces at the same time. The smallest embroidery field width is 450mm, the maximum width is 2,100mm. This means that an area of up to 5.25m2 can be processed in a single operation.

 

ZIJLSTRA INTERIORS B.V. is the only company in the world that is currently able to process entire leather hides in a single process, thanks to the CMCF 0412‐450 Q (2500). This means that designs for seating or panelling can be realised without visible connecting seams, ensuring a flawless appearance!

 

The ZSK Vision System ( OPS II) guarantees the production of absolutely even and precise decorative seams, enabling a processing tolerance of approx. +/- 0.3 mm on leather.
